Almond mutzen

 

Yield: approx. 25

 

Ingredients for the dough:

·       180 g spelt flour

·       ½  tsp baking powder

·       60 g corn sugar

·       1 egg

·       pinch of salt

·       50 g soft butter or margarine

·       4 drops of almond flavour

 Other ingredients:

·       Corn sugar for tossing

·       1 liter of sunflower oil  

 

Directions:

  1.  Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt together. Add the sugar and mix
  2.  Add the egg, almond flavouring and soft butter. Mix to a soft dough
  3.  If the dough is too soft, add a tablespoon of flour to the mixture
  4. Heat the oil in a deep saucepan to approx. 175 degrees, or until bubbles appear when a wooden spoon is placed in the oil-
  5.  With 2 teaspoons, form small almond shapes out of the dough
  6. Place them carefully in the hot oil and fry for about 4 minutes until golden brown
  7. Carefully remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on kitchen roll to remove access oil
  8.  Leave them to cool and while still warm, toss in corn sugar
  9.  Enjoy!
